Here is where we explain what each of the warning lights that you might see in your MG.
Red warning lights mean you should stop the car as soon as it’s safe.
Yellow warning lights mean that action is required.
Blue and green warning lights are for information only.
Brake system |
The light illuminates when the parking brake is applied and |
High engine coolant temperature |
If the warning light illuminates blue, it indicates that the coolant temperature is low. If the warning light illuminates red, it indicates that the coolant temperature is high. |
Low oil pressure |
If the light remains on (accompanied by the message Low Oil Pressure, MG6 only), or illuminates continuously when driving, serious engine damage could occur; stop the vehicle as soon as safety permits and SWITCH OFF THE ENGINE IMMEDIATELY. Check the oil level. |
Airbag |
The warning light illuminates as a lamp check when the ignition is switched on. |
EHPAS / ESCL / SAS |
The warning light is used to indicate to the driver that a fault exists in electronic hydraulic power assisted steering(EHPAS) or electronic steering column lock system(ESCL) or steering angle sensor(SAS MG6 petrol only). |
Battery charging |
The light illuminates red as a lamp check when the ignition is switched on and extinguishes as soon as the engine is running. |
Engine immobilizer / key battery low |
The warning light does not illuminate when the ignition is switched on. |
Alarm status |
The indicator provides information about the status of the |
Seat belt warning |
If a seat belt for an occupied front seat remains unfastened, the warning light will illuminate. An audible warning is heard to remind the driver to ensure that both seat belts are securely fastened. |
Panel opening warning |
The warning light indicates that the vehicle doors or tailgate are not closed. The warning light does not illuminate when the ignition is switched on. |
EPB Status warning |
When the EPB is engaged the red warning light illuminates. |
System fault warning |
This warning light is used to indicate to the driver the status of any non-tell-tale warnings. This is a bi-coloured warning lamp illuminated in either red or yellow depending upon what warnings currently exist. |

Electric Power Steering System (EPS)/

When this lamp illuminates red, it indicates that the EPS has a failure relevant to the steering angle sensor. When this lamp illuminates red and flashes, it indicates that the EPS has a severe failure. Please contact an MG Authorised Repairer mmediately. |
Anti-theft System |
If no valid key is detected, this lamp illuminates red. Please use the correct key, or put the smart key at the bottom of the centre console cup holder. If the remote key battery is low, this lamp will flash. Please replace the battery as soon as possible. |
Charging Connection Indicator |
This lamp will illuminate when the vehicle is connected to a charge point. |
Power System Malfunction Indicator Lamp |
This lamp will illuminate if a power system failure is detected. Please contact an MG Authorised Repairer as soon as possible |
Motor Overheat Warning |
This lamp will illuminate if the motor temperature is too high. As soon as conditions permit, safely stop the vehicle and switch the vehicle power system to the OFF position. Please contact an MG Authorised Repairer as soon as possible. |
High-voltage Battery Pack Malfunction |
This lamp will illuminate if a fault is detected or the high voltage battery fails. Please contact an MG Authorised Repairer immediately. This lamp will flash if the high voltage battery temperature is too high. Please stop the car as soon as safety permits, switch the vehicle power system to the OFF position, and leave the vehicle immediately. Contact an MG Authorised Repairer at the earliest opportunity. If a high-voltage battery pack relay adhesion failure is recorded, this lamp flashes. |
Speed Limit Sign Indicator |
'NNN' denotes the speed value of speed limit sign currently recognised. If there is no speed limit value available the lamp will display ' — ' . When the Intelligent Speed Assist function is activated or SLIF Warning function is enabled, the lamp will flash if the speed limit value is exceeded , please slow down. |
System fault warning |

SYSTEM FAULT WARNING |

Engine Emission Fault |
This warning light is used to indicate an emission related fault is detected by the engine management system. The indicator illuminates as a system check when the ignition is switched on and should extinguish when the engine is started. |
Engine check |
This warning light is used to indicate an engine operation fault is detected by the engine management system. The indicator illuminates as a system check when the ignition is switched on and should extinguish after a few seconds. |
EPB Fault warning |
This yellow warning light indicates a fault with the EPB, or that the EPB is in a diagnostic state. Warning lamp illumination is accompanied by an audible alarm. |
Glow plug warning |
The glow plug warning is used to indicate to the driver that the diesel engine glow plugs are still heating and are below their cut-off temperature threshold, above which the engine may be cranked. |
anti-lock brake system |
The warning light illuminates as a lamp check when the ignition is switched on. |
tyre pressure monitoring |
The light illuminates yellow when the ignition is in position Ⅱ. It extinguishes after a few seconds. |
Brake pad wear |
This warning light is illuminated to alert the driver that the brake pads are worn and need to be serviced. The message Front Brake Pads Worn or Rear Brake Pads Worn will appear in the message centre. |
Stability control system |
The warning light indicates that the Stability Control System (SCS system) is working or faulty. The warning light illuminates as a lamp check when the ignition is switched on. |

The warning light indicates that the Stability Control System (SCS system) is switched on or off. The warning light illuminates as a lamp check when the ignition is switched on. |
passenger airbag off warning |
The warning light illuminates as a lamp check when the ignition is switched on, If the passenger airbag has been disabled, the light will illuminate until the airbag is enabled, Once the passenger airbag has been enabled, the light will extinguish. |
Slip control system / traction control |
The icon is displayed for approximately 7 seconds when the ignition is switched on. |
Cruise control |
The light illuminates green when the master switch is pressed but no cruise speed is active and yellow when cruise control is active. |
Traction control warning off |
The warning light indicates that the traction control is switched on or off. The warning light illuminates as a lamp check when the ignition is switched on, If the TC function is manually switched off, the warning light will illuminate all the time. |
passenger airbag on |
The warning light is located on the remote display module and is used to indicate that the passenger airbag has been enabled. |
Rear fog light |
Illuminates when the rear fog light are switched on |
Hill Descent Control (HDC) Malfunction |
If the HDC system detects a fault or fails, the warning lamp illuminates yellow. |
Electric Power Steering System (EPS)/ Electronic Steering Column Lock (ESCL) Warning |
When this lamp illuminates yellow, it indicates that the EPS has a general failure and the performance is reduced. Please stop the car as soon as safety permits, switch the vehicle power system to the OFF position. Then restore the vehicle to READY and drive the vehicle for a short while. If this lamp remains on, please contact an MG Authorised Repairer immediately If this lamp illuminates yellow and flashes, it indicates that the electronic steering column lock has failed. Please stop the car as soon as safety permits, switch the vehicle power system to the OFF position and seek an MG Authorised Repairer immediately. If the lamp extinguishes after a very short period it may be indicating that the steering is locked due to abnormal forces placed on the steering gear, please move the steering wheel left to right to allow the lock to operate without the influence of external forces. |
Charging Status Indicator |
When the vehicle is connected to an external power supply for charging, this lamp will remain on during charging and extinguish after charging is completed. |
High-voltage Battery Pack Low Battery Warning |
This lamp will illuminate when the high voltage battery charge is low, if the voltage continues to drop, this lamp will flash. Where possible please charge the high voltage battery before this lamp enters the flashing stage |
High-voltage Battery Pack Cutoff Warning |
When the high-voltage battery pack is connected, this lamp will not illuminate. This lamp will only illuminate when the high voltage battery is disconnected or isolated. |
Driving Power Limited |
This lamp will illuminate if the vehicle power has been reduced |
Lane Departure Warning System Indicator |
This lamp will illuminate yellow when the Lane Departure Warning function is enabled, the lamp will extinguish when the function is disabled. (This lamp will illuminate green when the Lane Departure Warning function is activated) If the Lane Departure Warning System is not able to function normally the lamp will flash yellow and then remain on after a period of time. |
Lane Departure Prevention System |
This lamp will illuminate yellow when the Lane Departure Prevention function is enabled, the lamp will extinguish when the function is disabled (This lamp illuminates green when the Lane Departure Prevention function is activated). If the Lane Departure Prevention System is not able to function normally the lamp will flash yellow and then remain on after a period of time. |
MG Pilot System Indicator |
This lamp will illuminate yellow when the MG Pilot function is enabled, the lamp will extinguish when the function is disabled. (This lamp illuminates green when the MG Pilot function is activated).

Forward Collision Warning System Indicator |
This lamp will illuminate yellow when the Forward Collision Warning function is disabled. If the Forward Collision System is not able to function normally the lamp will flash yellow and then remain on after a period of time. |
Automatic Emergency Braking System (AEB) and Automatic Emergency Braking System for Pedestrians (AEBP) Indicator |
This lamp will illuminate yellow when the Autonomous Emergency Braking System (AEB) or Autonomous Emergency Braking System for Pedestrian (AEBP) function is disabled.

Adaptive Cruise Control System Indicator |

Adaptive Cruise Control System Malfunction |
This lamp will illuminate if an Adaptive Cruise Control System failure is detected. |
Manual Speed Assist System Indicator |
This lamp will illuminate yellow when the Manual Speed Assist function is enabled, the lamp will extinguish when the function is disabled. If the current speed of the vehicle is above the maximum value allowed by the system the vehicle remains in the stand by state and the lamp will illuminate yellow. (This lamp illuminates green when the Manual Speed Assist function is activated). If the Manual Speed Assist System is not able to function normally the lamp will flash yellow and then extinguish. Please try to reinstate this function. If this function cannot be switched on, please contact an MG Authorised Repairer. |
Intelligent Speed Assist System Indicator |
This lamp will illuminate yellow when the Intelligent Speed Assist function is enabled, the lamp will extinguish when the function is disabled. (This lamp illuminates green when the Intelligent Speed Assist function is activated).

Speed Limit Sign Additional Information

This lamp will illuminate when the speed limit sign currently recognised has additional information. Please pay attention to it. |

Direction Indicators |
The left and right direction indicators are represented by directional arrows located at the top of the instrument display. The warning lights flash synchronised with the exterior left or right direction indicator lights |
Start/Stop Active Indication |
This warning light is used to indicate to the driver that the engine is being controlled by Stop/Start system. It is used to emphasise the indication to the driver, when the Stop/Start system is active. |
Auto Main Beam |
The indicator illuminates when the auto main beam function has switched on the main beam lamps |
Hill Descent Control (HDC) On |
Operating the HDC switch will activate the function, the system will enter the stand by mode and the warning lamp illuminates green, the lamp will extinguish when the system is turned off. If the vehicle is under the control of HDC the green warning lamp will flash. |
Electronic Parking Brake (EPB) / AutomaticParking Status Indicator |
When the auto hold system is operating to assist the driver, this lamp illuminates green. |
READY |
This lamp is used to indicate that the vehicle is ready for driving. (MG ZS EV only) |
